Dr Yam Malla has over 30 years experience of working in natural resource management and rural development fields generally and forestry in particular. Being one of the pioneers of Nepal’s community forestry, Dr. Malla has worked in countries of Asia, Africa and Europe. Dr. Malla is currently Senior Advisor to IUCN Nepal. Prior to this, he has served as Country Representative of IUCN for Nepal for four and half years, Executive Director of RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests – a Bangkok based international organization for nine years, and Lecturer and Director of Masters Programme on Participatory Natural Resource Management and Extension in the United Kingdom’s University of Reading for seven years. With PhD in Forestry from Australia, Masters and Post Graduate Diploma in Agriculture Extension and Forestry from UK, Dr. Malla has published his work widely in various international refereed journals.

Currently, working for Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal. Worked with many international organizations such as SNV Nepal, Action Aid International Nepal and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in the capacity of program manager and gender focal point. During 25 years of professional engagement with all the institutions, gained professional experience in the field of natural resource management, food security and inclusive policies and practices. Affiliated with many different national, regional and global networks of professionals on resource and rights, trade and food security as well the social movements especially on land rights and globalization related issues. Has contributed many articles in the daily magazines and newsletters, edited books and made presentations in many national, regional and international conferences. Has hands-on experience on process facilitation and applied research.
