About Us

Association of Family Forest Owner’s Nepal (AFFON) is a common Formal national organization of family forests owners of Nepal. This association is established to secure the rights of Individual/Groups who are relying on Family Forests for their livelihood with an objectiveof active participation of family forest owners in policy formulating process and increase their approach. This organization was established on 8th March, 2015 on National conference of Family/ private forests farmers held on Kathmandu. AFFON is a unique association of Nepali citizen having Family/ Private Forests. This organization will remain active as civil network playing vital role in policy formulation and implementation process as well to establish Rights with prosperous community.


Management of Family forest and establishment of rights of family dependent on Family Forest for their livelihood is the fundamental objective of this organization. This association will conduct campaign for conservation of family forests as well as establishment of Rights of family relying on family forest for their livelihood.

Similarly this will organize Family/Groups for conservation, promotion of family forest and will focus on organizational and economic development. This will contribute on economic enhancement of Family Forest farmers through utilization of Forest products.

This association will function as bridge between its member, policy makers and implementing authorities and will conduct campaign for formation of human centered policy.

This association will link Individual/Family/Group managing family forest as general member in accordance to prevailing Rules and regulation.
There will be 3 level of structure local, District and National level of Family forest association. In local level representative will be selected based on status of village, family Forest farmers size and geographic condition of that area which will be further established as Federation of family Forest Users Group in near future. Practice of Democratic Federalism will be promoted in each level of structure. Advisor committee will be established in each structure as needed.

Structure of National Association

National assembly will be the highestorganogram of AFFON. National assembly will form working committee of 35 members from selected representative at district level based on number of family forests. 50% Female representative will be in the association. For this regional open Competition Procedure will be followed. From each development region 10 representatives (50% male and 50% female) will be nominated and 16 representatives (50% male and 50% female) will be nominated openly. Similarly 2 From Dalit community and 2 from Indigenous communities will be nominated openly. Rest 5 members will be nominated by working committee. For conducting daily activities and running the sectary working committee will form 7 members committee. In which chairman, vice chairman, General Secretary, Treasurer, Secretary and 2 members are included. The structure of this association will also change according to restructuration of country.

Secretariat and Human Resources management

The office of Secretariat will remain on Kathmandu. In national secretariat Administration Account, Resources- information Centre, legal support unit will be established as needed. Association will conduct campaign with co-work and support from stake-holders for extension and conduction of organization and to meet the Objectives, vision and mission of organization. Each member and representative will work voluntarily in organization. Office of each District association will be established at Headquarter of that district. Similarly every district association will work independently for development and implementation of their program. National Association will help on capacity building and leadership development.

Immediate work plan.

  • Data collection of Family Forests of Nepal.
  • Organizational extension at least on 40 districts.
  • Discussion, interaction, coordination and co-work with stakeholders for empowerment of family forest.
  • Leadership development based on concept of “whose issues his leadership”.
  • Discussion and interaction on challenges and opportunities of family Forest.
  • Advocacy through common media.
